Nekocon 16 & my first cosplay

(((Wow it's been so long since I've had the chance to sit down and write in my blog! So much has happened in my life it seems in these past six months. I passed my classes, got an amazing boyfriend, moved to a big, sunny apartment, went on adventures, and so much more. Anyway...)))

L

ast weekend I had the chance to go to Nekocon with my boyfriend; my first real anime convention! (I went to one for a few hours when I was a high schooler with no cosplay or money) It was such an amazing adventure and felt like a mini-vacation from reality!

First of all, getting my cosplay finished on time was pretty stressful and very last minute. I didn't finish until Friday afternoon. But I am so happy with the way it came out! There are a few minor details I may go back and work on, but I really think it's not bad for a first cosplay! And almost everything is hand-made.
The Tuxedo Mask cosplay was also pretty last minute. I had to sew the mask to his eyeglasses! It ended up working really well.
We got stuck in a bit of tunnel traffic on the way to the convention center. But when we finally made it there, it was like entering another world! Everyone wasn't afraid of being themselves. You could be as silly or nerdy as you wanted, and everyone would accept you. It was amazing, and as soon as we walking in, we felt like celebrities! Everyone wanted a photograph of us or with us. I wasn't expecting that at all! Over the course of the weekend, we had our photos taken hundreds of times! I felt a bit awkward and just stood there at first but then started to do fun Sailor Moon poses. I also got so many hugs at the convention!

I saw a lot of amazing cosplays done by other people too. I was especially excited about the Kiki's Delivery Service cosplays and the Once Upon a Time evil queen cosplay. There was also a Slenderman who was particularly good at being creepy and lurking behind us. I didn't want to risk carrying my heavy $2000 camera around so unfortunately I didn't get to take any pictures.
There was even a cosplay photo-shoot! This was so much fun. The photographer said I looked like I was sleeping here, but this photo was one of my favorites.
We hunted down an artist named SwordBrush in the artist's alley after seeing a beautiful commissioned illustration of another cute cosplayer. After a long search, we finally found her. It was pretty expensive, but she was really nice, and made us look so good-looking! haha...
I loved her art style so much that I had to commission her again the next day! This one is in my generic cat girl costume I wore on the final day with our new Nekomimi animatronic brainwave-reading cat ears. Needless to say, both of these will end up framed on my wall!
I ended up buying so many things (and getting lots of gifts hehe). I FINALLY got Alpacasso plushies! They are the most adorable alpacas ever. I've wanted one for so long, and I ended up with two GIANT huggable alpacas.

After the convention ended, I had a bit of post-con depression ha. Everyone was so nice and friendly and fun and accepting at the convention that the return to my normal go to stressful school / go to minimum wage job routine felt really sad. But I am enjoying looking at all of the photographs of Rick and I popping up on the Nekocon tags of social media sites! I really want to thank everyone for making my first convention and cosplay experience such an amazingly magical one!

I think eventually I am going to take some really nice photographs of us in our Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask cosplays. Probably after this stressful semester is over.
